      What is sublimation printing?

      Sublimation printing is a popular method of printing designs onto fabric or other materials, where the design is transferred from a solid state directly into a gas without passing through a liquid phase. This process is used primarily for polyester fabrics and specially coated items, such as mugs, phone cases, and more.

      How it works:

      1. Design Creation: A digital design is created on a computer, often using software like Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop.
      2. Transfer Paper: The design is printed onto special sublimation transfer paper using sublimation ink, which consists of dyes that turn into gas when heat is applied.
      3. Heat Transfer: The transfer paper with the design is placed on the fabric (or item to be printed), and both are exposed to high heat (typically between 180-200°C or 356-392°F). This causes the dye to turn into gas and bond with the polyester fibers or specially coated material.
      4. Permanent Bonding: As the dye gas cools, it re-solidifies inside the fibers of the fabric or coating, creating a vibrant, durable, and permanent print that becomes part of the material itself.

      Advantages of sublimation printing:

      • Sublimation creates vibrant, long-lasting colors that become part of the fabric, resulting in high-quality prints.
      • The design is absorbed into the fabric, which means it won’t peel, crack, or fade over time, making it ideal for items that are worn or washed frequently.
      • Unlike other printing methods, sublimation doesn’t leave a raised surface or coating on top of the fabric. The design becomes part of the material, keeping it soft and flexible.
      • Sublimation allows for full-color, high-resolution designs, including gradients, photos, and detailed images.
      • Sublimation works best on polyester fabrics or materials with a polymer coating. It doesn’t work on natural fibers like cotton, as they don’t absorb the dye in the same way.

      Sublimation printing is perfect for creating custom, high-quality fabrics, such as velvet sublimation printing fabric, which allows intricate and vivid designs to be transferred onto rich textures—ideal for fashion or upholstery projects.

  • Please Note: The visual appearance of fabric and colour may vary on screen between monitors due to the different screen colour settings;

    The actual fabric appearances, textures, colours and quality of your fabric may not be as what you see on screen, the dyeing process between fabrics vary due to way the fabric has been woven, constructed or treated. Another factor is the type of yarn used (coarse or fine), these are key factors to consider when choosing the right fabric for your project.

    We recommend you order actual fabric samples of the fabrics you are interested in. With samples you will be sure of the fabric shade, texture, quality and the fabric feel, also you will know if it is the right fabric for your application.

    Important Point to remember about your colour; i.e. RED may not be the same as our RED, this is the same rule for any colour, you must request fabric samples, we do offer free samples, simply call us to order them.
